How to care for toddler’s curly/wavy hair?
My daughter’s hair has springy curls in the back and waves throughout most of the rest of her hair. My hair is fairly straight, except after a rain when wisps curl like hers. My husband keeps his wavy hair short.
I want to keep as many curls and waves as possible. Her hair tangles in the back where she rubs on the car seat or her pillow. I’ve been using a detangler spray on dry hair between shampoos with a large comb. This is a bit of a battle since she doesn’t want to sit still. And at bath time, I use a children’s conditioner. I try to let her hair air dry because the curls seem to wilt with heat and blown air and she’s scared of the sound. She hasn’t had a formal haircut. I’ve trimmed it a little here and there.
Haven’t used Johnson’s curly hair shampoo yet. Any advice or product suggestions?
My daughter ( 2 yrs old) has curly/wavy hair and I have thick wavy hair. To wash her hair, I use suave kid’s shampoo 3-in-1. It makes her hair very soft and I can comb right through it without tangles. I didn’t like Johnson’s curly hair shampoo- it left her hair kinda dry and not as soft. Remember, using a conditioner after shampooing is going to weigh the curls down in your baby’s hair, so your best bet is to use a kid’s shampoo that has conditioners in it. Also, the more you trim her hair, the more her curls will bounce up. If you’re not concerned with her hair being long, I would get it cut in layers…it will spring up and look sooo cute and fun!! You can always use a shine serum for her hair if it gets frizzy. Apply it after towel-drying her hair, just a tiny drop will suffice. Let it air-dry and scrunch up her hair with your hands a few times while it’s drying to give the curls some assistance. If her hair gets frizzed or tangled in-between washing, keep a squirt bottle handy and mist some water onto the problem areas. It should freshen the curls right up!! Hope all this helps
